Celebs come out in force to support this year’s clapperboard awards ceremony at Liverpool Playhouse theatre

Personalities from Stage and Screen have attended the prestigious Clapperboard Awards Ceremony which celebrates the achievements of young people from the North West.

Shameless actor Tina Malone hosted the spectacular event and presenters and guests at the star studded ceremony who presented the young film-makers with their awards included Andrew Lancel (The Bill) Christine Tremarco (Waterloo Road), Alice Barlow and Beth Kingston(Hollyoaks), Gillian Kearney (Casualty), Jody Latham (The Fixer, Shameless), Ricky Tomlinson (The Royale Family), Suzanne Collins, Dean Sullivan (Brookside), Sam Siddall (Shameless) Margi Clarke (Coronation Street) Terri Dwyer (60 Minute Make Over) Jimmy McGovern (The Street, Moving on),

Young people between the ages of 14-17 came together last night at the Liverpool Playhouse to receive their Clapperboard Awards sponsored by Panavision.  The young people from Oldham, Salford, Knowsley and Liverpool respectively, made nine short films exploring serious issues around sexuality and gender, substance misuse, hate crime, knife crime and anti-social behaviour.  The young people’s stories are honest, real and controversial and will hopefully create a much needed debate between all who are concerned.

Professional Writers’ Arthur Ellison, Alan Field, Chris Green, Collette Kane, James McMartin, Punam Ramchurn and Paul Womack have worked with the young filmmakers to develop their ideas into scripts.  Production companies Bakermedia and Handstand Productions were at the helm of the production process.

This year’s judging panel included acclaimed writers, Paul Abbott, (Shameless) Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions), actors Christine Tremarco (Waterloo Road) and John Henshaw (Early Doors) Along with two members of the Clapperboard Active Citizens panel Corrin Allen and Bradley Thompson.

Paul Abbott, award winning writer and creator of BAFTA winning television series Shameless, praised the project and said….
"There's a wealth of creative young talent in this region as you will see when watching these films.  Clapperboard is a unique project where young people come up with ideas to tackle issues that affect them and their communities.  They then take control of the whole project from script to screen with the guidance of industry professionals.  The Awards Ceremony is a celebration of their work and a great opportunity to integrate young people from Merseyside and Greater Manchester. Once again, this year's films are outstanding and being a judge wasn't an easy task".

Organiser Maureen Sinclair said: “It was a fantastic celebration. So many well know people have given up their time to be here this evening to support the young people’s creative achievements.  We really struggle with sponsorship to showcase their achievements and endorsements from such well know personalities allows us to promote the project to a much wider audience”.
