Clapperboard Awards

Record breaking number of short films by young filmmakers in production for next year’s Clapperboard awards ceremony in Liverpool

Clapperboard UK has a record breaking nine short films produced by young people between the ages of 12-17 from Knowsley Youth Service, Archbishop Beck in Walton, The Academy of St Francis of Assisi in Kensington, and three shorts made by young people from Greater Manchester.  At the helm is Handstand Productions from Liverpool and Bakermedia (makers of BBC Prank Patrol) from Manchester.  The short films cover issues including sexuality and gender, hate crime, knife crime, teenagers and alcohol and antisocial behaviour.
Professional Writers’ Arthur Ellison, Alan Field, Chris Green, Colette Kane, James McMartin, Punam Ramchurn and Paul Womack, have worked with the young filmmakers to develop their ideas into scripts.
Award Winning Actors, John Henshaw and Christine Tremarco and acclaimed writers Frank Cottrell Boyce and Paul Abbott will judge the films next year when the filmmakers come together for a high profile celebratory awards ceremony in Liverpool at the Liverpool Playhouse in May.

Actor Christine Tremarco comments, “I am delighted to be one of the judges on next year’s jury.  Clapperboard gives young people the opportunity to learn media skills and express themselves through the process of film making whilst dealing with the hard hitting social issues that matter to them.  It gives them a voice as well as a showcase for their talent.”

Organiser Maureen Sinclair said: “More than 1000 young people have participated in the Clapperboard Youth Project to date.  It’s very important that we bring together the young filmmakers from Merseyside and Greater Manchester respectively so that they can celebrate their achievements and share their experiences.  We have an Active Citizenship Panel of young people that came up with ideas for their films based on their own life’s experience.  Subjects include knife crime, sexuality and gender, hate crime, teenagers and alcohol and antisocial behaviour.  We could not deliver this project without the support of our generous sponsors, funders and partners”.
