Introduction

In its third successful year, the Clapperboard Youth Project 2007, delivered by Clapperboard UK, a not for profit organisation, has now engaged with over 600 young people and expanded from Merseyside to Salford.

The Clapperboard Youth Project Merseyside has worked in association with seven schools including, Alsop High School, The Academy of St Francis of Assisi, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, De La Salle RC
High School, New Heys Community School, Shorefields Technology College and Sutton High Sports College. The young film-makers are aged 11-17.

This year's films are based on “International Slavery”, highlighting the bicentenary of the abolition of the British slave trade and international importance of slavery, its issues both in a historic and contemporary context. Slavery still exists today despite the fact that it is banned in most countries where it is practiced.
Professional television and film writers Joe Ainsworth, Maurice Bessman, Marc Gee, Neil Jones, Colette Kane, Andy Lynch and Barbara Phillips, engaged with the young film-makers to develop their ideas into 3-5
minute short films.

The Creative input of the project was headed by Han Duijvendak of Handstand Productions. Handstand is an active player in the development of the cultural industries on Merseyside and has a passion for the development of young film-makers. Handstand is delighted to be involved in Clapperboard this year.
This year's films have been judged by award winning and highly acclaimed Writer, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Chief Executive (Lime Pictures)

Carolyn Reynolds and television personality, Johnny Vegas.
