CELEBS COME OUT IN FORCE TO SUPPORT THE CLAPPERBOARD AWARDS CEREMONY
Monday 20 April, 7pm Quays Theatre, Salford Lowry Centre
Personalities from Stage and Screen have confirmed their attendance at this Monday’s prestigious Clapperboard Awards Ceremony which celebrates the achievements of young people from the North West.
Young people between the ages of 12-19 from Oldham, Salford and Knowsley respectively have made five short films on the issues of Gun, Knife and Gang Culture which have been endorsed by the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
Paul Abbott, award winning writer and creator of BAFTA winning television series Shameless, praised the project and said….
"There's a wealth of creative young talent in this region as you will see when watching these films. Clapperboard is a unique project where young people come up with ideas to tackle issues that affect them and their communities. They then take control of the whole project from script to screen with the guidance of industry professionals. The Awards Ceremony is a celebration of their work and a great opportunity to integrate young people from Merseyside and Greater Manchester. Once again, this year's films are outstanding and being a judge wasn't an easy task".
Confirmed as this year’s host is actor Samantha Siddall (Shameless, Mandy Maguire). Samantha quoted:
I’m delighted to be hosting this year’s Clapperboard North West awards ceremony at Salford Lowry Centre Quay’s Theatre. It’s great to see young people’s talents and achievements being celebrated instead of them receiving negative press. Executive Producer Maureen Sinclair has done an amazing job with so little funding and the films that the young people have made are inspirational.
Other presenters and guests at the star studded ceremony include John Henshaw (Early Doors/The Visit), Maxine Peake (Shamless, See No Evil), Ciaran Griffiths (Shameless/The Bill) Christine Tremarco (Waterloo Road/Clocking Off) Reece Noi (Emmerdale/Doctors/Waterloo Road) Azad Afshan (Harry Potter), Chelsea Healey (Waterloo Road), Jennifer Metcalf and Glen Wallace (Hollyoaks), Thomas Hudson (Coronation Street), Lee Otway (Hollyoaks, Celebrity Love Island) Rebecca Atkinson (Shameless, Life on Mars, Ideal).
Professional Writers’ Chris Green, Louis Loizou, Parvez Quadir, James McMartin and Sophia Rashid have worked with the young filmmakers to develop their ideas into scripts. Production companies Bakermedia and Handstand Productions were at the helm of the production process.
The judging panel consisted of: Acclaimed writer Paul Abbott, (Shameless) Award winning writer/actor Craig Cash (Royle Family, Early Doors) and Award Winning Production Company Red Productions Executive Producer, Nicola Shindler (Clocking Off, Linda Green, Bob and Rose, The Second Coming , Burn It, Sparkhouse, Conviction, Mark of Cain, Unforgiven)
Organiser Maureen Sinclair said: “It’s fantastic that so many well know people have given up their time to support the young people’s work and Clapperboard UK, a non-profit making organisation that relies on funding. We really struggle with sponsorship to showcase their achievements and endorsements from such well know personalities allows us to promote the project to a much wider audience”.
This year’s partners and sponsors include Panavision, Bermans Solicitors, University of Salford, Lime Pictures, Oldham College, Salford City Council, Central Salford Urban Regeneration, Bill Elms Associates, The Lowry, Bananafish Management, Pinewood Studios, Channel M, Government Office North West, Knowsley Housing Trust, EventSinc, Forward Culture.
